Yiddish theater (ייִדיש טעאַטער) actress and lyricist who wrote the Yiddish words to Misirlou (Μισιρλού) and, with , turned American pop into Second Avenue Yiddish.
was a star of the American Yiddish stage and, after her 1943 marriage to Seymour Rexite, his partner on a long-running WEVD radio program of Yiddish translations of popular songs. She is credited with the Yiddish lyric of Misirlou in the 1940s — the words Rexite recorded for Banner. She died in 1996 at 86; the couple is buried under the family name Rechtzeit at Mount Hebron.
