Greek-American music instructor who registered a jazz-exotica arrangement of Misirlou (Μισιρλού) and is still often printed as its composer.
Nicholas (Nick, Nikos) Roubanis was a Greek-American music instructor — sources also call him a teacher of Byzantine music — who copyrighted an arrangement of Misirlou (often dated 1934 or 1941). Because the claim was not legally challenged, he remains the credited composer on most American printings, including ’s 1962 single. The folk contour is older; Demetriades had already named the song on a 1927 Columbia disc. English lyrics were later added by Chaim Tauber, Fred Wise, and Milton Leeds.
