The Shvesters
formed 2017
Yiddish vocal duo of Chava Levi and Polina Fradkin — tight close harmony, jazz-leaning arrangements of Yiddish theater (ייִדיש טעאַטער) and folk songs. The name is Yiddish for “the sisters.”
are Chava Levi and Polina Fradkin, who met in Detroit high-school choir and theater and started singing together in Tel Aviv in 2017. They are not sisters — shvesters (שוועסטערס) is Yiddish for sisters — but they dress and phrase like one instrument: close harmony, mouth trumpet, and swing takes on Yiddish oldies in the line of the Barry Sisters. Social-media clips made them widely known; they now tour from Israel and the U.S. Their live “Dona, Dona” is the Yiddish performance on this site.
