One melody, many lives
Yiddish words by , sung by on Banner — the documented Yiddish life of Misirlou (Μισιρλού), held at UW–Madison.
Miriam Kressyn wrote Yiddish lyrics for Misirlou in the 1940s; her husband Seymour Rexite (born Shayele Rechtzeit) popularized them. The copy we can point at is Banner’s “Miserlou,” ca. 1948, Rexite with Abe Ellstein at the piano, on the album Seymour Rechtzeit sings your favorite songs in his intimate style (Banner B 103). The University of Wisconsin–Madison holds the transfer. There is no verified YouTube upload we will embed, and we do not have a citable full Yiddish text to print.
